There was a fire incidence that lasted for about four hours on Saturday night at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) warehouse located at its Electoral Institute along airport road, Abuja.
The fire gutted election materials that were used in the 2011 general elections, Director of Security at the Institute, Shettima Ngiladar told journalists on Sunday.
He said the incidence occurred immediately after power was restored, leading up to the sudden sound from an electric panel within one of the warehouses.
While conducting journalists round the area, Shettima said, the fire could not have affected the upcoming elections since all non-sensitive materials relating to the elections have been dispatched to states.
He dispelled any political insinuation to the fire incidence, stressing that it was purely electric incidence.
This is coming just two weeks to the re-scheduled general elections, billed to hold on March 28 and April 11.
